Hierarchical Decision Making in Machine Design

چکیده
This paper considers team decision making in mechanical engineering design, and in particular for decisions based on hierarchical evaluation criteria. We develop the Analytic Hierarchy Process as appropriate for mechanical design teams, and demonstrate that the method is particularly well suited for design problems that involve hierarchical descriptions such as for precision machine tools. The process begins by generating a hierarchical list of criteria that is used to compare different possible decision solutions. These criteria may include a wide range of factors such as cost, reliability, and ergonomics. A relative weighting technique is then used to determine the overall absolute importance of each criterion, in accordance with its position in the functional hierarchy. The candidate design solutions are then evaluated on their ability to satisfy each criterion. Finally, an overall rating of each possible solutions is calculated from the criteria weights and the solution evaluations. Normalization of entries and mathematical consistency are utilized to minimize spurious effects sometimes encountered in group evolutions. The method is illustrated with an industrial case study.

Selecting the most suitable alternative under uncertainty is considered as a critical decision-making problem that affects the success of organizations. In the selection process, there are a number of assessment criteria, considered by a group of decision makers, which often could be established in a multi-level hierarchy structure. The aim of this paper is to introduce a new hierarchical multi...

متن کاملAnalytical evaluation of an innovative decision-making algorithm for VM live migration
In order to achieve the virtual machines live migration, the two "pre-copy" and "post-copy" strategies are presented. Each of these strategies, depending on the operating conditions of the machine, may perform better than the other. In this article, a new algorithm is presented that automatically decides how the virtual machine live migration takes place. In this approach, the virtual machine m...

Proposing a hierarchical group compromise method can be regarded as a one of major multi-attributes decision-making tool that can be introduced to rank the possible alternatives among conflict criteria. Decision makers’ (DMs’) judgments are considered as imprecise or fuzzy in complex and hesitant situations. In the group decision making, an aggregation of DMs’ judgments and fuzzy group compromi...
